Who has believed what he has heard from us? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a
root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look
at him, and no beauty that we should desire him. He was despised and
rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one
from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him
not. Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we
esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded
for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was
the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we
In the year that the commander in chief, who was sent by Sargon the
king of Assyria, came to Ashdod and fought against it and captured it—
at that time the Lord spoke by Isaiah the son of
Amoz, saying, “Go, and loose the sackcloth from your waist and take off
your sandals from your feet,” and he did so, walking naked and
barefoot. Then the Lord said, “As my servant
Isaiah has walked naked and barefoot for three years as a sign and a
portent against Egypt and Cush, so shall the king of Assyria lead away
the Egyptian captives and the Cushite exiles, both the young and the
old, naked and barefoot, with buttocks uncovered, the nakedness of
Egypt. Then they shall be dismayed and ashamed because of Cush their
hope and of Egypt their boast. ...
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin
shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.
The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah
and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings
of Judah. Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth; for the
Lord
has spoken: “Children have I reared and brought up, but they have
rebelled against me. The ox knows its owner, and the donkey its master's
crib, but Israel does not know, my people do not understand.” Ah,
sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, offspring of evildoers,
children who deal corruptly! They have forsaken the
Lord,
they have despised the Holy One of Israel, they are utterly estranged.
Why will you still be struck down? Why will you continue to rebel? The
whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
Paul, Silvanus, and Timothy, To the church of the Thessalonians in
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace from
God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. We ought always to give thanks
to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing
abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is
increasing. Therefore we ourselves boast about you in the churches of
God for your steadfastness and faith in all your persecutions and in the
afflictions that you are enduring. This is evidence of the righteous
judgment of God, that you may be considered worthy of the kingdom of
God, for which you are also suffering— ...
For we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God and
glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh—
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law,
In the days when the judges ruled there was a famine in the land,
and a man of Bethlehem in Judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab,
he and his wife and his two sons. The name of the man was Elimelech and
the name of his wife Naomi, and the names of his two sons were Mahlon
and Chilion. They were Ephrathites from Bethlehem in Judah. They went
into the country of Moab and remained there. But Elimelech, the husband
of Naomi, died, and she was left with her two sons. These took Moabite
wives; the name of the one was Orpah and the name of the other Ruth.
They lived there about ten years, and both Mahlon and Chilion died, so
that the woman was left without her two sons and her husband. ...
